Behind the scenes there is a plan to move all meetings
digital. The brands want to reduce the friction between the end user and
their sales force one consolidated inventory platform. From a single
computer anywhere in the world, you can check group inventory for both rooms
but now “spaces.” The marketing surrounding this will be “Meetings
Imagined” and we were part of a team that brought the concept to life years
ago when Marriott introduced SFA (sales force automation) which was Marriott’s
way of asking all associates around the world to start building good data
through a single environment.
What does this mean for anyone in the business of meetings? This means you must
continue to drive your digital environments. Refine your process wherever
possible to take control of your little but growing slice of the digital
world. As others put it on the back burner, Marriott was driving the agenda
with much resistance, both internally and externally, but they are now poised
to pounce and I believe strongly others have the same opportunity. But the window is closing fast.
