Search Algorithm

Search algorithm's are changing fast. If you are paying attention Google likes to change often. Since the beginning of time, Google has based their search results on a mathematical search algorithm. The recipe for reaching this formula has always been highly protected, but for all practical purposes easy to "game" by smart marketing people.

Marketing people realized simply understood that if you do things a certain way with your web code you can essentially work your way to the top of search results. If there was a phrase that you simply could not crack you would turn to ad words, but the bottom line is if you want to develop a sound strategy with Google as your search audience target, you can literally predict your results by "gaming" the system.

Well along came social media and Facebook and out of nowhere this mathematical equation algorithm seemed a bit outdated. Why base results on math when you can base them on human interaction.

Welcome the idea behind Bing and web search by Microsoft. The decision engine they call it.

Recently Google tied 25% of employee bonuses directly with Google's success in social. The reason?

Social can be an important way that people make purchase decisions too and Google is working on developing products in this area.

Google’s latest social product release, Google + 1, a tool which allows people to rate search results and adverts around the engine, launched last week is an early sign they are transitioning more towards this "decision engine"

The bottom line, as more and more people get more active in social media with their business, they must understand the connection with what they are doing and these ever changing search algorithms.
